CompactFlash cards wear out after a while. They have a finite number of read/write cycles. How old is your card?

It might be best to try a flash memory recovery tool to restore the photos and then retire the CF card. The open source PhotoRec (download) software may be able to help; it seems to be pretty widely used.

You might try a low-level recovery tool like TestDisk or PhotoRec. I've used them successfully to get data off a damaged card.

I have had good results in the past with a product called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is free for photo recovery, and its paid mode is inexpensive and guilt-free for harder operations on large disk drives. It works by ignoring most of the file system structure and looking at the physical disk sectors for data that "smells like" parts of a photo.

It recovered a bunch of Nikon RAW files from a trashed CF card that I really would have regretted loosing.
