I want to take all the insides out of my Dell Inspiron B130 (the screen is busted, although as far as I know the inverter still works) and put them into the case of an older HP Pavilion laptop. Can I do this? I know some of the ports are in different places...am I going to run into major problems once I get all the guts out of my Dell? The Dell is still a good computer, just no screen. I happen to have the HP sitting around, and figured if I could make it work, it'd be the cheaper and quicker option, rather than ordering a new screen online.

I doubt you would be able to get everything to fit correctly. You are right in that the ports will line up differently, also the screw holes that hold the motherboard and other components into the laptop will not line up either. You will probably spend days if not weeks, trying to mod your case just to get the parts to fit. You would be better off ordering a screen, or sacrificing portability and hooking up an external display. However should you attempt to swap parts, I would be curious to see the results. Feel free to document your progress. |
